Obtained Bachelor Degree in Economics (Hons.) from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in 1992; Masters degree (M.A.) in Islamic Thought from International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization (ISTAC) (1995), with a thesis titled "The Sources of Knowledge in al-Ghazālī: A Psychological Framework of5Epistemology"; and Doctorate of Philosophy, also in Islamic Thought from the same institute (2006).
His academic experience includes serving as Assistant Research Fellow, ISTAC (1992-1995); Research Fellow, ISTAC (1995-2003); Lecturer at the Department of General Studies, Kulliyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences, IIUM (2004-2006); and Senior Fellow at the Centre for Science and Environment Studies, Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) (2006-2013).
Beginning from January 2014, he has been Principal Fellow at IKIM, an academic position equivalent to a professorial position. He has also been tasked as the Director of the aforementioned Centre since January 2007 as well as Managing Editor of TAFHIM: IKIM Journal of Islam and the Contemporary World since 2010. He is now the Deputy Director of the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM).
