This course outline examines the tension between secular modernism and the Islamic worldview, arguing that contemporary notions of progress often lead to a psychological crisis and moral decay. By tracing the historical shift from Western philosophical antecedents to modern moral ambiguity, the course proposes that true development must be rooted in the affirmation of Truth and the divine oneness of Tawhid. It emphasizes that societal advancement is inseparable from the cultivation of Adab (right action) and Fitrah (innate human nature), which ensure that the animal self is governed by reason and spiritual discipline. Ultimately, the curriculum seeks to redefine success through the lens of Shari’ah objectives, positing that genuine human flourishing and happiness are only achievable when leadership and scientific knowledge are guided by wisdom and inward purification.
