LEADERSHIP ON THE SCALE OF TAMADDUN

Lingkaran Leadership is an annual programme thoughtfully designed to introduce a deeper understanding of leadership through an intensive course that goes beyond conventional leadership training. The programme offers a more comprehensive and meaningful approach, moving beyond theories, technical skills, or strategies for becoming an effective leader. Led by Dr. Roslan Jelani, a distinguished scholar who is widely recognised for his programme in adabī leadership, the programme invites participants to reconsider leadership from a more fundamental perspective. Unlike conventional leadership courses, which often focus on how to lead others or emphasise communication skills, leadership styles, and outward qualities, Lingkaran Leadership brings us back to more fundamental questions: Who is the person who leads, and what is the purpose of leadership?

Access to the recordings in this series is reserved for registered participants of the Lingkaran Leadership 2026: Leadership on the Scale of Tamaddun.

Leadership on the
Scale of Tamaddun

Dr. Roslan Jelani

SESSION 1
2nd October 2026

Opening lecture on leadership and governance that reinterprets these concepts through the worldview of Islam and the foundational framework of adab. Rather than adopting conventional, secular management models, true leadership must begin with self-governance and the cultivation of the soul, requiring leaders to attain the highest level of certainty regarding truth and reality. By integrating revelational knowledge from the Qur'an and the Prophetic tradition, Muslim leaders can liberate themselves from modern illusions, imaginations, and secular influences that have distorted contemporary political, educational, and economic systems. Ultimately, this session serves as a transformative guide for individuals to fulfil their cosmic responsibility as vicegerents of God, ensuring that all personal and organizational actions are rooted in divine consciousness rather than materialism.

SESSION 2
2nd October 2026

Contemporary leadership and governance frameworks are often severely flawed because they sever themselves from reality, truth, and a foundational understanding of God, resulting in modern concepts like freedom, education, and happiness that drift aimlessly into moral relativism. To correct this, human thought and institutional systems must be anchored in the comprehensive body of divine truth, where the principles of tawhid (the oneness of God) and nubuwwah (prophetic guidance brought by Prophet Muhammad) serve as the ultimate regulatory frameworks governing all worldly endeavours from business to art. Consequently, true freedom is not the western illusion of limitless alternative choices, but rather voluntary submission and obedience to divine choice, while genuine education and societal progress function as mechanisms to actualize human fitrah (innate spiritual nature) and foster the soul's intimacy with its Creator. Ultimately, authentic leadership and societal organization must operate as a sacred taklif (religious trust) built upon the substratum of Islamic civilization, ensuring that every human action, decision, and cultural expression consciously points back to our cosmic covenant with God and prepares humanity for its final eschatological destiny.

SESSION 3
2nd October 2026

This session explores how the secularization process systematically undermines Islamic leadership, metaphysics, and worldview through modern intellectual frameworks. It begins by examining the abstract philosophical roots of secularism tracing back to Greek thinkers who debated reality, being, and existence using pure human reason rather than divine revelation. The discourse then highlights how Western historical elements—including Christian theology, hedonistic cultural traditions, and rationalist movements pioneered by figures like René Descartes—were concretized into modern political, educational, and legal systems. Consequently, contemporary Muslim leaders often unknowingly adopt secularized ideologies and artificial languages, reducing religion to mere intellectual exercises or political power struggles while losing touch with true spiritual frameworks. Ultimately, Dr. Roslan Jelani urges Muslims to recognize these pervasive secular influences, abandon superficial governance, and actively safeguard the authentic worldview of Islam.

SESSION 4
3rd October 2026

The contemporary crisis of Muslim civilization stems from the gradual infiltration of secular philosophies, particularly positivism, which has fractured traditional thought and detached education from the Prophetic tradition. To counter this pervasive intellectual colonization, individuals must undergo a process of dewesternisation by realigning their cognitive frameworks with the worldview of Islam and returning to a strict hierarchy of sciences. True leadership and societal restoration cannot be achieved through mere adoption of Western technological or pedagogical efficiency, but require internalising divine truth and cultivating spiritual insight through revealed knowledge. Ultimately, overcoming these foundational modern challenges depends on reviving authentic Islamic scholarship, understanding true meanings, and anchoring all human action firmly within the spirit of tawhid.

SESSION 5
3rd October 2026

This session emphasizes that true leadership and governance must be rooted in adab, which requires recognizing the proper place of all things within both ontological and theological domains. This foundational framework asserts that any human act, including education, economics, and politics, must align with its core essence and the fitrah of man to avoid fundamental errors. Furthermore, the governance of society and organizations must originate from good stewardship of the self (tadbir al-nafs) and orderly household management before expanding outward. Ultimately, this structured approach to spiritual, moral, and institutional dynamism serves to guide human actions toward true happiness and justice, reflecting the ultimate governance of the universe by Allah.

SESSION 6
3rd October 2026

Human existence is deeply intertwined with a structured hierarchy of internal faculties and psychological dimensions, ranging from basic animal instincts to the supreme authority of the rational soul. To prevent fundamental errors and achieve true wisdom, the lower imaginative and cognitive drives must be governed by the highest intellectual and spiritual capacities rather than being driven by secular impulses or false facts. Ultimately, aligning personal development and leadership with divine truths and religious adab enables individuals and civilizations to transcend mere materialism and fulfil their true purpose as moral vicegerents.

SESSION 7
4th October 2026

This session explores the foundational role of adab—defined as the recognition and acknowledgment of the proper place of things within both the ontological and theological domains—in shaping authentic Islamic leadership, knowledge, and self-governance. Modern education and leadership have suffered a profound loss of adab, largely due to the uncritical adoption of secular, Western frameworks of thought like rationalism and positivism that sever human knowledge from its ultimate divine source. To correct this spiritual and intellectual crisis, individuals must cultivate pure hearts, patience, and sincere companionship, moving beyond superficial learning to acquire true wisdom (al-hikmah). Ultimately, true Islamic governance and civilization-building cannot rely on legalistic or pragmatic shortcuts; instead, they require a dynamic integration of faith, intellectual discipline, and the pursuit of excellence (ihsan), ensuring that every thought, action, and social order genuinely reflects the reality of tawhid.

SESSION 8
4th October 2026

To achieve true success and harmony in life, individuals must integrate spiritual consciousness with professional duties by grounding every action in the foundational principles of Islam. Genuine good deeds and virtuous actions cannot exist in isolation, but must instead serve as direct expressions of faith and divine unity, requiring Muslims to constantly recognize their role as humble servants of God. Furthermore, effective leadership and daily responsibilities demand both sound practical expertise and a proper spiritual worldview, ensuring that all human endeavours are guided by the Prophetic tradition rather than purely secular or materialistic methods.

SESSION 9
4th October 2026

Navigating modern intellectual and moral challenges requires a deep reconnection with Islamic intellectual heritage, which functions as a robust supersystem capable of resisting secular ideologies and restoring true Muslim identity. This rich tradition of wisdom is preserved not in grand architectural monuments, but in profound literary works and manuscripts authored by great scholars and spiritual masters across the ages. To properly utilize these texts for contemporary problem-solving and civilization building, seekers must approach them through systematic preliminary guides, authoritative guidance, and a clear understanding of each author's underlying framework. Ultimately, grounding our worldview in this authentic heritage shapes the soul, aligns our actions with divine truth, and provides the essential foundation for sound leadership and societal renewal.
